Blue Bayou

A Korean-American man in Louisiana must fight deportation and confront his past.

Trailer

Why watch this film?

Justin Chon, actor and filmmaker of the series 'Pachinko', directs a social drama selected for the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. 'Blue Bayou' tells the story of Antonio (Chon), a Korean adopted and raised in the United States, who is now married to the love of his life, Kathy (Alicia Vikander), and stepfather to her daughter. When he discovers that his parents never naturalized him, he faces the possibility of being deported. Though the film suffers from being overly dramatic (something that is accentuated by its beautiful 16mm cinematography), it is a faithful portrait of the injustices and paradoxes of the US immigration system, illustrating that people's true home is rarely their place of origin, but where they belong.
