Why watch this film?

It is the feature film debut of Chinese filmmaker C.B. Yi, selected for the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. With a clear inspiration in Tsai Ming Liang's cinema (there are scenes that obviously allude to 'The River'), 'Moneyboys' presents a captivating and contemplative atmosphere to tell the story of Fei, a young gay man from a small town who decides to travel to the city and prostitute himself in order to financially support his family. However, his heart breaks when he discovers that his family will accept his money but not his homosexuality. It is a deeply melancholic film, in which traditional rural values and those of large cosmopolitan cities converge in the existence of one person.
