A clever plot that plays with the line between fiction and reality. The events of the movie carry a sinister and mysterious tone about a political scandal involving the president of Argentina. It is a typical political thriller with an Argentinian heavyweight cast - the lead role is played by Ricardo Darín. 'La Cordillera' was highlighted in the Cannes and Toronto festivals.

Directed by Argentine Santiago Mitre ('A Cordilheira') and selected for the 2022 Venice Film Festival, 'Argentina, 1985' is a film that portrays one of the most crucial years in the South American country's recent history, when the heads of the military dictatorship were brought to civil trial in a case brought by prosecutor Julio Strassera (the great Ricardo Darín, from 'Relatos Selvagens') and his assistant, Luis Moreno Ocampo (Peter Lanzanil), with the help of a team of young lawyers. With a good script and very secure direction, 'Argentina, 1985' adheres to the conventions of commercial courtroom dramas. But that's not necessarily a bad thing: it results in an emotional film and, above all, accessible to an audience that may not have known firsthand the atrocities of the dictatorship. Thus, it fulfills one of the most vital functions of cinema, which is to make and preserve memory so that such crimes do not happen again. As enunciated by the Argentine people: "never again". The film follows a writer who returns to his hometown of Cognac after 35 years to represent a cognac brand and reunites with the son of his first love, a role played by Victor Belmondo, triggering an avalanche of passionate memories of his youth.
Kidnapped
In Kidnapped (Rapito), Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio delves into one of the murkiest and most controversial episodes in the history of the Catholic Church, the "Mortara case". In 1851, when Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara becomes gravely ill, his Catholic nanny decides to baptize him in an emergency. However, papal law dictates that all Catholics must be raised as such, so the cardinal orders the boy to be taken and handed over to the church, against his parents' wishes, who decide to fight for him. The film recounts a controversial case that captured the attention of the rest of Europe and America, and skillfully portrays the clash of interests between the waning power of the church, Mortara's parents, and public opinion, with irreversible consequences for all involved.
