The Innocents
War brings its horror to everyone. In this case, it was for a group of Polish nuns that were raped by Nazi officers. The movie tackles this case - based on true events - with a cold, sad atmosphere, yet still filled with faith. A story that makes us think not only about those times, but also about the present.

Police
Shown at the 2020 Berlin International Film Festival, 'Police' is a police drama from filmmaker Anne Fontaine ('White As Snow') that, for better or worse, brings together in its script many of the ethnic, migratory and social aspects experienced in Europe (and in France, in particular) - not always with good results, though with good intentions. Although the plot may seem simple, the film is built from the divergent perspectives of its protagonists, enriching the eventual moral dilemma they face. It has in its favor that it manages to be a "commercial" film without losing ambition in the themes it addresses. The protagonist Omar Sy ('Lupin') is, in itself, a good reason to watch the feature.

Presidents
From acclaimed French director Anne Fontaine ("White as Snow"), 'Présidents' is a deeply rooted political satire in contemporary France, poking fun at two of its former presidents. Jean Dujardin ("The Artist") plays Nicolas (a parody of Sarkozy), who clings to a political life that has ended. In the hope of coming back, he decides to convince another happily retired president, François (an imitation of Hollande, played by Grégory Gadebois from 'Delicious: From the Kitchen to the World'). Though banal as political satire and very specific in its backgrounds, Présidents can be quite funny due to the undeniable chemistry between Dujardin and Gadebois, who, instead of imitating the former presidents as they really are, caricature them, persisting with the stereotype that inhabits collective consciousness.

The Peasants
The Peasants is an animated film by the same directors of Loving Vincent, using the same innovative technique, which could be described as "oil-painted rotoscopy". Based on the Nobel Prize-winning novel The Peasants (1904) by Władysław Reymont, it's a tale of desire and revenge told in four episodes, one for each season of the year. The story, set in Poland at the turn of the 20th century, follows a young peasant woman who wreaks havoc by marrying an older, wealthy man, whose son also desires her, despite being married. It is a powerful and bleak, although conventional tale about violence and misogyny, somewhat overshadowed by its beautiful and prodigious visual execution.
