In the story, the actor plays a fighter who seeks to defend Chinese honor in the face of aggression from foreign fighters - touching on controversial topics within Chinese society, including tensions with the Japanese. A success all over the world (including the US), it put Lee in the spotlight. It is undoubtedly one of the great examples of world cinema in the early 1970s, influencing Hollywood directors to this day.
