Why watch this film?

Drinking from the well of films like 'Boarding School' and 'Innocence', 'Selah and the Spades' is dedicated to showing the underworld of boarding schools. In this case, factions that manage the underground -- and nighttime, of course -- life of a prestigious school on the East Coast of the United States. Taking it to extreme situations, director Tayarisha Poe goes against realism and lets the movie show a fantasy that perhaps the younger ones have about adult life. So, it's no use watching the feature film expecting to find a dramatic movie about young people watching life pass by the window of the boarding school. On the contrary: Tayarisha makes the movie happen on top of absurdities and imaginative exercises, which enchant and haunt teenagers, taking the movie to a point beyond. It's not conventional, but it's also not a new milestone in teen cinema. It's a movie that goes beyond its limits and that should test whoever watches it. After all, for having such a different package, it must divide the audience. You have to watch to find out.
