You might not even remember this, but Glen Powell is in the cast of the award-winning Hidden Figures. Early in his career, still little talked about, the actor played John Glenn, the third American to go into space and the first to orbit the Earth.
Perhaps Powell's first major success, which put him on another level in Hollywood, is Top Gun: Maverick. Although the undeniable stars of the film are Tom Cruise and Miles Teller, the Texan actor does well as the guy who challenges the protagonist all the time, embodying the figure of a pilot who knows everything and feels better than everyone.
It's a mistake to think that Glen Powell is only a star for high-adrenaline movies. He is one of the elements of the successful formula of Anyone But You, a rather silly -- but charming, as much as possible -- romantic comedy where he plays an "almost couple" with another star of this era, Sydney Sweeney. Powell does well not only in romance but also in comedy scenes.
Another film that took Powell out of his comfort zone and showed that he is truly a good actor is Hit Man, directed by Richard Linklater. Here, he plays a philosophy professor who moonlights for the police as a professional hitman. Besides the natural comedy of this process, Powell -- who co-wrote the script with Linklater -- also added a correct dose of romance with actress Adria Arjona in one of the best films of 2024.
After so many successes and being the protagonist of smaller films, Glen Powell seems to be approaching the peak of his age by starring in Twisters, a film that revives the classic of the 1990s but with a new cast. Here, he is part of a group of people who chase tornadoes and hurricanes to test an experimental weather alert system. Besides the good pairing with Daisy Edgar-Jones, the actor shows that he already has the experience to handle even productions of this level.
