The Canadian drama “Nadia, Butterfly”, which was selected to compete in the 2020 Cannes Film Festival that was eventually canceled, has a unique duality. It's a work of fiction set, interestingly enough, during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics - an event that didn't take place that year - but it plays a bit with reality: its protagonist is played by Canadian Katerine Savard, who is not an actress but a professional swimmer specializing in the butterfly, with several records to her name. The film, which also features swimmers Ariane Mainville and Hilary Caldwell, explores the sacrificial life of high-performance athletes, capturing the motivations and contradictions of their journey.

One of Margot Robbie's best performances, if not her best to date. You can feel all the emotions of the character through Robbie's portrayal, and the same goes for Allison Janney, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Based on true events, this movie is a well-crafted mockumentary. *I, Tonya is one of the few productions that doesn't turn figure skater Tonya Harding into a monster, but instead tries to show her side of the 1990s Olympic scandal.

Is the obsession with winning good for us? Is winning more important than just competing? “Foxcatcher” delves into the extreme competitiveness of American society, the constant pursuit of victory at all costs. All based on a true story - one that, unbeknownst to us, probably repeats itself every day.

Dr. Larry Nassar, until shortly after the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, was a sort of celebrity in the sports world. Despite being discreet and reserved, he was the team physician for the U.S. women's gymnastics "golden team." However, Nassar is now known for a different reason: the abuse he inflicted on young girls, almost all of whom were minors, while claiming to provide medical treatment. In this documentary by Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk (the duo behind the provocative “Audrie & Daisy”), the audience is invited to learn more about this story of abuse, power misuse, and cover-ups. While not as comprehensive or in-depth as the series “Athlete A”—for instance, Nassar's trial is briefly mentioned and not thoroughly explored—it provides a good overview of the story in a faster-paced, well-produced format. After all, past crimes need to be recognized to prevent future repetitions.

The premise of "Cool Runnings" is hard to take seriously, and that's one of the movie's great virtues. With plenty of charisma, humor, and a cast led by John Candy (one of the great American comedians of the 1970s and 1980s), this movie is perfect if you're looking for lighthearted humor and love sports-themed productions.
