Why watch the movie Vera Drake?
"Vera Drake is a period drama directed by the legendary Mike Leigh and starring Imelda Staunton (the iconic Dolores Umbridge from the Harry Potter series). Set in 1950s London, the plot follows the epynomous protagonist, a working-class woman and devoted mother who is beloved by her friends. However, in secret, she also provides abortions for women with unwanted pregnancies. When the authorities discover her activities, her life is turned upside down, and she risks losing her freedom. This drama tackles a still divisive issue with delicacy and objectivity, portraying the circumstances of women in this situation. Just be cautious with the methods shown on screen, as they should not be considered safe or healthy options in any situation."
