"One of the best things that cinema can offer to the viewer is the dive into new cultures, new societies, and new social groups. After all, from the comfort of our own homes, we can understand and experience a little of what people from different backgrounds and places do. And this is the great merit of 'Concrete Cowboy', the feature film selected for the Toronto Festival. Here, we get to know the world of asphalt cowboys. Mostly black, they resist with their culture in the ghettos of the American state of Philadelphia, maintaining their own styles, affection for animals, and a very strong bond of friendship. And to delve even deeper into this culture, first-time director Ricky Staub takes advantage of the relationship between a cowboy father (Idris Elba, very good in the role) and a troubled son (Caleb McLaughlin, from 'Stranger Things'). So, even if it relies on unnecessary clichés and some silly narrative shortcuts, which may be annoying, it is a feature film of immersion. Of experience. Whoever knows how to take advantage of what the movie really has to offer, without a doubt, will leave the projection with a story to tell."
