Animation and DC Entertainment animation is based on the comic book of the same name by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland, one of the most acclaimed in the Batman canon and in comic book history in general. 'Batman: The Killing Joke' has in its favor the solid animation of the studio and a cast of favorites among the character's fans, especially Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill and Tara Strong in the roles of Bruce, Wayne / Batman, the Joker and Barbara Gordon / Batgirl, respectively. The movie, however, has received criticism for some unnecessary additions to the plot and, in particular, for the controversial treatment given to Batgirl, removed from the original material."
