The Best Years of a Life

"Claude Lelouch touched hearts in 1966 with his delicate romance 'A Man and a Woman', about the meetings and partings of a pilot and a scriptwriter. Two decades later, he revisited the couple's story in the uninspired 'A Man and a Woman: 20 Years Later'. It didn't make a third of the success of the first movie. Now, Lelouch returns to the characters in 'Les plus belles années d'une vie'. He is already senile, losing his memory. She has formed a family and has become the only reminder of the old passion. From this, in a mild but sensitive plot, we follow the unfolding of the love of these two in their old age, at a moment when they look back on the past and reflect on all they have been through together. Absolute highlight for the performance of Jean-Louis Trintignant and Anouk Aimée, who know how to give the necessary sensitivity to the story."
