"In his sixth feature-length film, Mexican filmmaker Julián Hernández ("I Am the Happiness of this World") continues with themes similar to those in his previous movie "Rencor Tatuado" (Tattooed Resentment), in which a vigilante fights against gender violence. Now with a star-studded cast including Ximena Romo ("Tell Me When"), Mabel Cadena ("The 41 Dance") and Paulina Goto ("Twenty-Something, Divorced and Fantastic"), the director makes "La diosa del asfalto" (“The Goddess of the Asphalt”) an amalgam of influences and topics, ranging from vigilante films to punk and 1980s Mexican cinema, with a strongly feminist discourse that questions male gaze and gender violence."
