A perfect couple rents a holiday home on a sunny Italian island. The reality does not live up to their expectations when they find out that the pool in the house is broken. Ignorant of the fact that the island faces water shortage, they ask for someone to fix it.
"One of the best films of the Toronto Film Festival 2021, 'Cicha ziemia' impresses already with a basic information: it's the first feature film from filmmaker Agnieszka Woszczynska. It impresses because, even on first voyage, the director is able to blend tones of Bergman and Michelangelo Antonioni to already create her own style in telling the story of a Polish couple on a trip to Italy. Everything seems idyllic and perfect until a stranger, an Arab boy who fixes the pool, enters their lives. From there, with a coldness that can turn off a large part of the audience, we dive into this relationship full of highs and lows that, from their prejudices and silences, also speaks a lot about the 21st century society."
