Julia is a mother, or rather, one of the many mothers, sisters, daughters, colleagues, who have seen their lives shattered by widespread violence in a country that wages a war against its women. Julia looks for Ger, her daughter. And in her search, she will weave the stories and struggles of the different women she will meet.
"In her first feature films, Mexican filmmaker Natalia Beristain ("The Eternal Feminine") worked in an intimate register, but clearly anchored in the female experience, among abandoned women or those struggling in spaces dominated by discreet (but atrocious) machista violence. With "Ruido", the filmmaker makes a leap to an openly social and political level. Her story follows Julia (the legendary Julieta Egurrola), one more woman who joins the endless fight of so many other mothers to find their missing daughters in the hands of organized crime in the face of an apathetic, at best, and complicit in the worst judicial system. "Ruido" follows many of the same steps that similar films ("Sin Señales Particulares", "La Civil") have followed: the portrait of impunity and corruption, the constant threat of violence and the despair of broken families. However, Beristain's film shines - and deeply moves - because, in the end, it returns to the intimate: it is one of the productions that best portrays the impotence, the devastating pain and the overflowing rage of the victims who cry out for security and justice."
