Why watch this film?
With Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh. A couple's lives are transformed by a painful truth. In this romance spanning decades, they learn how precious every second with the one they love is.
"In We Live in Time, director John Crowley (Brooklyn) narrates a decade in the romantic relationship of a couple (Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh), using a non-linear structure where time is much more than just a word in the title. The story follows the couple at various points in their relationship, out of order, from their initial meeting and the evolution of their relationship to the saddest and darkest moments of their lives together, aiming to poetically represent the cyclical parallels and ups and downs across their different stages. This structure recalls other romances told in a fragmented manner, reminiscent of films like Annie Hall, (500) Days of Summer, and Blue Valentine. However, it has a more existential undertone that, at times, even flirts with the late cinema of Ingmar Bergman, though sweetened with the typical emotional music at the right moments to elevate the feelings that Garfield and Pugh bring to the screen with mastery. It’s a great film to enjoy as a couple on a superficial level, but it also provides a beautiful reflection on pain, joy, and the fleeting nature of life."
