Rose and her daughter Sofia travel to the Spanish seaside town of Almería to consult with the shamanic Dr. Gomez, a physician who could possibly hold the cure to Rose’s mystery illness, which has left her bound to a wheelchair. But in the sultry atmosphere of this sun-bleached town Sofia, who has been trapped by her mother’s illness all her life, finally starts to shed her inhibitions, enticed by the persuasive charms of enigmatic traveller Ingrid.

"Hot Milk is a strange film, even a little uncomfortable. After all, the feature film leaves the viewer in a gray area: is the story a dream, is it delirium, is it true? The entire plot of the film, directed by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, a well-known screenwriter making her directorial debut, follows a young woman (Emma Mackey) who accompanies her sick mother (Fiona Shaw) on a kind of retreat in Spain. The relationship between the two, however, is shaken by the arrival of a mysterious woman (Vicky Krieps). With a touch of surrealism, the film plays with the viewer's senses at all times and does not allow anyone to know, until the end, what is fact and what is imagination. Highlights include the sharp cast, despite Krieps's shallow character, with remarkable performances by Shaw and, especially, Mackey. To watch and think about the film long after."
