Armed robberies, chases, kidnappings, clashes with rival gangs, and daring escape attempts. Mario Ubaldo Rossi's crime story begins in Genoa in the 1970s, when, during Italy's Years of Lead, his gang becomes one of the most notorious in Northern Italy. Then comes the first murder, a life on the run, and a descent into hell through prison systems of all kinds. Between six years of total isolation in the infamous "death wings" and, in the 1980s, a helicopter escape attempt from Porto Azzurro following an unprecedented prison riot-with dozens of hostages and special intervention teams ready to open fire-Mario Rossi, now in his seventies, recounts a life that, despite his common name, is anything but ordinary. Rossi's story intertwines with that of Francis Turatello, Renato Vallanzasca, the Red Brigades, Albert Bergamelli of the Marseille clan, the neo-fascist terrorist Mario Tuti, as well as meticulous robbers who seem straight out of a crime film, such as Pancrazio Chiruzzi, nicknamed the "Soloist of the Kalashnikov." How does a person who has spent almost their entire life locked up in a cell avoid losing their sanity? How does one wake up every morning knowing they will die behind bars, with no hope of ever living free again? Where is redemption? With this docufilm, we sought answers to these questions, trying to capture an endless spiral of deprivations, revenge, nightmares, and silence.
