Why watch the movie Running With Scissors?
"Directed by Ryan Murphy ("Eat Pray Love") and adapted from Augusten Burroughs' memoir of the same name, "Running with Scissors" is, on one hand, an eccentric portrait of a turbulent time in the United States. On the other, it deals with themes related to mental illness, though sometimes dangerously lightly. It is saved by its all-star cast, led by the great Annette Bening ("American Beauty") alongside Alec Baldwin, Brian Cox, Evan Rachel Wood, and Gwyneth Paltrow, to name a few."

Young Augusten Burroughs absorbs experiences that could make for a shocking memoir: the son of an alcoholic father and an unstable mother, he's handed off to his mother's therapist, Dr. Finch, and spends his adolescent years as a member of Finch's bizarre extended family.
