As the eighth shogun, Tokugawa Yoshimune (Tamura Takahiro), who was considered to be the successor, was dim-witted, therefore people claiming to be the shogun's illegitimate child appeared all over the place. For the stability of the shogunate, Ooka Tadasuke (Nakayama Jin) sends assassins and kills self-proclaimed illegitimate children one after another. However, only Tokugawa Ten'ichibo (Matsuoka Akio), who is popular in Kyoto and Osaka, has actual evidence of being an illegitimate child, and even Yoshimune himself is looking forward to meeting him. The shogun's real son, Ude Shojo (Tamura Masakazu), who is the shogun's food taster, meets Ten'ichibo, who is heading to Edo to meet the shogun, and sees through that he is a fake, but feels the caliber of Ten'ichibo's attendant, Iga Akira (Umemiya Tatsuo), and deliberately keeps silent and lets him go. When Ten'ichibo's party arrived in Edo, Shojo flew to Kishu, where Ten'ichibo was born, and learned a surprising fact.
