Narnia: The Magician's Nephew In Trouble? New Report Claims "Everyone At Netflix Thinks [It's] Awful"

Netflix released the first teaser for Greta Gerwig's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew this week, and while the "Stairway to Heaven"-accompanied footage seemed to go over pretty well with fans of C.S. Lewis' beloved series of fantasy novels, there have been whispers that all may not be going particularly smoothly behind the scenes. Jeff Sneider previously said he'd heard that there might be tension between Gerwig and Netflix film chief Dan Lin, possibly stemming from the movie's (rumored) massively inflated $280 million budget. Now, the Hot Mic co-host has shared some more details. “It’s 100% true, and everyone at Netflix thinks the movie is awful. It’s a genuine problem,

Is Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’ in Trouble? Netflix Reportedly Worried After a Rough Test Screening

When Netflix landed Greta Gerwig to bring C.S. Lewis’ beloved fantasy world back to the screen, it looked like one of the streamer’s biggest creative wins. Coming off the $1.4 billion success of ‘Barbie’, Gerwig was set to lead ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ as Netflix’s most ambitious film event to date. The film has already gone through some changes. It was originally planned for an IMAX release over Thanksgiving 2026, but Netflix moved it to February 12, 2027, with a 49-day exclusive theatrical window before it streams on April 2. Netflix said only that the film wasn’t ready for its original date. Now, a new report is raising questions about the film’s progress.

Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’ Is Reportedly in Deep Trouble at Netflix: Brutal Test Screening, Emergency Reshoots and a Studio Scrambling to Save Its Biggest Bet

Few fantasy properties carry as much weight as C.S. Lewis’s Narnia. Netflix acquired the rights to the books back in 2018, and it has spent years building toward a new screen version. Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ is the centerpiece of that plan. The stakes are enormous. It is Gerwig’s first film since ‘Barbie’, and Netflix is giving it a full wide theatrical release in IMAX and standard theaters, a first for the streamer. The reported budget is $280 million, which would make it one of Netflix’s most expensive films ever. That is why a new report is turning heads. According to The InSneider, the newsletter from Hollywood scooper Jeff Sneider,

Netflix's New 7-Part Western Epic With 87M Hours Viewed Remains a Global Streaming Smash

Netflix's near-perfect western adaptation remains one of the biggest shows on streaming right now. Netflix just added a lot of great shows to its streaming library. The original paranormal thriller, Below, recently dropped and is already taking over the streamer. Then there's Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which was recently added to Netflix for a limited time, along with Taylor Sheridan's Mayor of Kingstown, and Season 2 of The Gentlemen, all of which are in the top 10. But it's Netflix's star-studded and incredibly dark western thriller that can't stop winning on streaming right now. In its second week on Netflix, East of Eden is still raking in viewers by the millions.
