22 Years Ago, TV’s Best Sci-Fi Show Proved It Was About More Than the Mystery

Jump LinksSun and Jin become more than supporting charactersThe Island's mysteries are just getting startedThe survivors begin choosing sides There was a time when Lost was more than just a television show. It was an obsession. Every episode introduced new mysteries, every character seemed to be hiding something, and every Wednesday night left viewers with more questions than answers. In the fall of 2004, nobody knew what was happening on the Island, and that was a huge part of the fun. Premiering on Oct. 27, 2004, "House of the Rising Sun" arrives just six episodes into Lost’sfirst season, yet perfectly captures what makes the series so addictive. While Jack (Matthew Fox) and

This Star Trek Actor's Canceled Sci-Fi Show Has A Terrifying Premise

The ABC mystery-box sci-fi series "FlashForward," based on the 1999 novel by Robert J. Sawyer, was co-created by "Star Trek" luminary Brannon Braga (who briefly quit the franchise after "Star Trek: Voyager") and celebrated superhero scribe David S. Goyer, and, boy howdy, does it have an intriguing premise: On October 6, 2009, every single person on Earth mysteriously faints and stays unconscious for exactly two minutes and 17 seconds. When everyone comes to, they have all had visions of their own futures, specifically what they will be doing on April 29, 2010, about six months from the present. Too bad the short-lived show couldn't foresee its own fate. John Cho (himself a "Star Trek" veteran who

‘The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past’ Is Still Being Written, Peter Jackson Says

Few franchises carry the weight of Middle-earth. ‘The Return of the King‘ grossed $1.1 billion worldwide and became the highest-grossing film of 2003, so any return to that world is a high-wire act. That’s especially true for ‘The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past’, a project that has already survived a surprise announcement and a wave of cancellation chatter. Warner Bros. revealed the film in a video update in which Jackson brought on Stephen Colbert, a self-described Tolkien superfan, to announce it. Colbert is writing it with Philippa Boyens and his son, Peter McGee, while Jackson, Boyens and Fran Walsh are producing. A late-night host turning up in Middle-earth

22 Years Ago, One Perfect Twist Changed TV's Greatest Sci-Fi Series Forever

Jump Links“Walkabout” hides its twist in plain sightThe Island gives Locke a blank slateLocke’s miracle establishes Lost’s central conflict The best twists totally recontextualize everything that’s come before them. Mystery-box series master Damon Lindelof once cited The Sixth Sense as the definitive example: The movie works if Bruce Willis is simply a psychiatrist helping a child who sees dead people — even if it’s a child hallucinating these haunting visions. The revelation that Dr. Malcolm Crowe was dead all along, however, changes not just the ending, but the entire movie. Lindelof told Vox in 2004 that the reaction is, “Oh, I didn’t even think I was sitting in that movie.

Lego Brings Back Its Most Epic Lord Of The Rings Sets For Free

Lego is giving Lord of the Rings fans another chance to own one of the most iconic sets from the franchise. Lego is re-releasing its Lord of the Rings Grond set, adding it back to its collection for a limited time only. However, there is one major catch. Collectors and fans can only receive the discontinued merchandise if they purchase the massive Minas Tirith set, which comes with a hefty price. The Lego Lord of the Rings Grond set recreates the giant battering ram used by Sauron’s forces during the Battle of the Pelennor Fields in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The weapon, designed to resemble a wolf,

Maisie Williams Wants Another Shot at Wolfsbane in Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ Reboot

Superhero fans know the feeling of a character who never quite got a fair shot. Sometimes the movie stumbles, and the performers are left wondering what might have been. That is the story of one of the more unusual corners of the X-Men film universe. Wolfsbane, the werewolf-like mutant Rahne Sinclair, made her live-action debut in the 2020 film ‘The New Mutants.’ Maisie Williams played her, after being cast in the role back in 2016. The film later failed to connect with critics or at the box office, and one report tags it as a $49 million bomb. Now Williams is making a case for a second chance. She wants to return as
