‘Crystal Lake’ Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane on Some of the Series’ Most Controversial Changes

Just when you thought it was safe to be a promiscuous camp counselor at a ramshackle summer camp … “Crystal Lake” is here. The new “Friday the 13th” prequel series from A24 has arrived on Peacock, just in time for spooky season. It follows Linda Cardellini’s Pamela Voorhees, who is dealing with the drowning of her young son Jason at the summer camp where she works. But what starts as an exploration of a mother’s grief in the face of unimaginable tragedy soon spirals out into something much, much bigger… TheWrap spoke with showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, who took over the series after Bryan Fuller and Jim Danger Gray had initially developed the project,

‘Crystal Lake’ burning questions answered: Where’s Jason’s hockey mask? Will Pam kill again? And who’s left alive for Season 2?

This post contains spoilers for the full season of Crystal Lake If you spent the majority of Crystal Lake's eight episodes waiting for Jason Voorhees to show off his killer moves, the Season 1 finale gave you a real eyeful. The cheekily titled The Final Chapter — written by showrunner Brad Caleb Kane — climaxes with the Friday the 13th boogeyman fatally defying his duplicitous father, Elias (Hamish Linklater). Ignoring the elder man's Emperor Palpatine-like entreaties to become his accomplice rather than his adversary, Jason puts his hands on his dad's face and his thumbs directly into the eye sockets, squeezing until he crushes Elias' head like an overripe Jersey melon. That act of patricide announces Jason's rebirth,

Who Plays Jason’s Mom in ‘Crystal Lake’? Meet Linda Cardellini

The horror genre has spent years reinventing celebrated franchises, shifting away from cheap shock value in favor of psychological character studies. For decades, the haunted woodlands of ‘Friday the 13th‘ sat quiet due to protracted legal battles that froze the property following its 2009 reboot. As television discovered fertile ground in prequel lore, audiences remained hungry to uncover what truly transpired before the carnage began. That prolonged silence officially ended when A24 and Peacock partnered to develop ‘Crystal Lake’, a serialized origin story designed to revisit the doomed summer camp. The eight-episode production ditches predictable slasher formulas to build a slow-burn, 1970s psychological thriller exploring the human tragedy that preceded decades of cinema mythology.

Crystal Lake Finale Includes A Major Throwback To Friday The 13th Part 2

We finally know what's been haunting the woods around Camp Crystal Lake, and this time, it isn't Pamela Voorhees. In the finale of "Crystal Lake," the thing in the woods attacking town residents and hippie hikers is revealed to be... Baghead Jason! Since his body was never found, it tracks. And the boy's substantial growth is explained to be a side effect of the drugs Bellflower Chemical was pumping into him. As Jason's dad, Elias (played by Hamish Linklater) explained in the penultimate episode, "Trauma actually makes him stronger." (I have feelings about Episode 7's over-explanations — including how young Jason

Crystal Lake Unveils First Official Look At "Baghead" Jason And The Show's Most Gruesome Kill

All eight episodes of Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, are now streaming, and Peacock has released a series of spoiler-y new promo images. The stills spotlight arguably the show's most gruesome kill, while also giving fans a first official look at the franchise's new Jason Voorhees, both as a child before his accident, and as the "grown-up" (you'll find an explanation below) killing machine that returns in the finale. The iconic movie maniac doesn't don his signature hockey mask in this first season, but "Baghead" Jason is played by Jonathan Tison. In episode 7, "Friday," we learn that a pregnant Pamela (Linda Cardellini) was an unwitting test subject for
