Callum Turner Reportedly Lands the James Bond Role, According to the Reporter Who Broke Daniel Craig’s Casting

Few casting searches in Hollywood have dragged on as long, or generated as much speculation, as the hunt for the next James Bond. Since Daniel Craig’s departure, fans have juggled shortlists, bookmaker odds and fan-casts, waiting for Amazon MGM Studios to announce the actor who will carry the Walther Ppk into a new era. Now, a veteran reporter says the wait may be over. Amazon took creative control of the franchise and brought in Denis Villeneuve to direct, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman producing and Steven Knight writing the screenplay. Casting director Nina Gold has led the search, and the studio has repeatedly said it will not comment

Is Callum Turner the Next James Bond? Reporter Behind Daniel Craig Scoop Says Word Is Out

The search for the next James Bond has been one of the longest-running casting stories in Hollywood. Amazon MGM Studios is developing the next 007 film with Denis Villeneuve directing from a script by Steven Knight, and the project is targeting a 2028 release. Only 6 actors have officially played Bond so far: Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. Producer Amy Pascal said in August that a casting announcement by the end of the year was a good bet, and Gary Oldman claimed in September that the next Bond had already been chosen. The rumors have now picked up a well-known name. Roger Friedman of

As Amazon Picks Its 007, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” Gets a Fresh Look

As Amazon MGM Studios closes in on its next James Bond, an IndieWire retrospective revisits the last time the franchise replaced its star with an unknown, and argues the gamble produced one of the series’ best films. That film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, reached theaters in December 1969 with George Lazenby, an Australian former model with no film acting experience, in the role Sean Connery had left. Director Peter Hunt spent over a year interviewing and screen-testing hundreds of candidates, among them a young Timothy Dalton, who took the part nearly two decades later. Lazenby claimed at his first meeting to have acted in Germany and Hong Kong, then admitted the lie the next day.

The First Time Producers Had to Find a New James Bond, the Result Was the Best 007 Movie Ever

When long-time producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson stepped away from the James Bond franchise last year and Daniel Craig made it clear that he was finished playing agent 007, new producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman were faced with an unenviable task: finding a new actor to step into one of the most iconic roles in all of cinema. In the last few weeks, it’s been reported that Pascal, Heyman, and new Bond director Denis Villeneuve have zeroed in on a few final contenders including Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, and Josh O’Connor. Whoever the filmmakers choose, it’s likely to be controversial; Bond fans are very loyal to their particular favorites, and have been ever since Sean Connery was first replaced in the role back in 1969. The general consensus seems to be that Connery was the best Bond (though Craig runs a close second in most polls), but often
