Léa Seydoux & Vincent Lindon in Funny Film 'The Second Act' Trailer

"Everything revolves around my character, Florence." Kino Lorber debuted their official US trailer for the film The Second Act, one of the recent creations from ingenious French filmmaker Quentin Dupieux. The Second Act, also known as Le deuxième acte, actually premiered a few years ago as the Opening Night film at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. But it never got a US release - maybe a bit too wacky for US viewers. Now it's finally out on VOD/DVD here this fall. The film stars Léa Seydoux as Florence, Louis Garrel as David, Vincent Lindon as Guillaume, and Raphaël Quenard as Willy, Manuel Guillot as Stephane and Françoise Gazio as Rose.

Vincent Lindon and Tahar Rahim turn Les Misérables into a duel that France greets coolly

Every generation of French cinemagoers gets its own Les Misérables, and each version tells you which half of Victor Hugo’s novel its era wanted. Fred Cavayé’s new adaptation, which topped the French box office and now heads to Spanish cinemas, picks the chase: a former convict who rebuilt himself under a false name, and the police inspector who cannot accept that a man can change. Vincent Lindon plays Jean Valjean. Tahar Rahim plays Javert. French coverage describes it as more squarely centred on the two enemies than earlier tellings. That choice puts the film in long company. Harry Baur, Jean Gabin, Lino Ventura and Jean-Paul Belmondo all carried

Canal+ “Making Progress” In Opposing French Vat Hike That It Says Would Force Subs Increases & Cuts

Canal+ has “made progress” in opposing a controversial proposal in France that would double the Vat rate on TV subscriptions from 10% to 20%. Delivering a Q3 trading update, the French major said it has support from “cinema organisations, federations and leagues” and will continue fighting the rate increase tooth and nail. “The Group has made progress in opposing the proposal, although the outcome remains uncertain,” Canal+ said. “Should the proposal be adopted into law, the Group intends to implement subscription price increases and significant cost reduction initiatives to mitigate the resulting financial impact.” News of the planned French Vat hike emerged earlier this month in a draft budget plan presented by President Emmanuel Macron’s Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, although rumors had been circulating for some time. Along with the subs increase, Canal+ has said it “would be unable to absorb such a loss in France and would consequently be forced

‘Lupin’ Star Omar Sy Voices Support For French High School Protests; Decries Authoritarian Response

French star Omar Sy has voiced his support for high school student protests sweeping France and decried the authoritarian crackdown which has seen one teenager lose their hand and more than 6,000 youngsters taken into temporary police custody. The protests have been building since late September, sparked by complaints of staff shortages and dilapidated schools. Social commentators suggest they also point to deeper anxieties over the future direction of the country amid a cost of living crisis and fears over the future of work as AI threatens jobs. Initially driven by high school pupils, teachers, higher education students and trade unions have since joined the ranks of the protests. A major countrywide mobilisation is due to take place this Saturday with supporters of the “yellow vest” movement also joining and more than half a million people expected to take to the streets. “The high school students’ movement is a small beacon of light,
