In the wild West of the late 19th century, outlaws who went down in history as the Sundance Kid and Butch Cassidy were among the most wanted criminals. After all, they were responsible for the biggest and most successful series of train robberies in US history. Consequently, their lives were dramatized in various media, including films. In 1969, Hollywood did its part with a script by William Goldman and brought the criminal duo to the screen with the glamour of those times, played by Paul Newman and Robert Redford, one of the most iconic pairs in film history. With influences from the French New Wave cinema, elements of comedy from the "buddy movies" and romantic touches, 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' was a breath of fresh air for the westerns of its time.
