Why watch this film?
Presented at the Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight 2019 and awarded at the UNAM International Film Festival (FICUNAM) 2020, 'Canción sin nombre' is the feature film debut of Peruvian filmmaker Melina León. With beautiful black and white images, the movie tells a relatively simple story but with immense tragic power, which, although set in a very particular sociopolitical context of its country of origin, reveals the precariousness and injustice with which those without a voice coexist in a cruel and unjust society. As hard to watch as it is powerful and hypnotic.
