Why watch this film?

Directed and adapted for the screen by John Patrick Shanley, based on his own Tony and Pulitzer-winning play, 'Doubt' is the kind of movie that takes on a thorny subject and addresses it with enough balance of perspectives to make the viewer doubt as well, with an ambiguity that prompts reflection without leading to confusion or tepidity. The narrative pace stumbles, but the movie is pulled through by the brilliant performances of a cast that includes Amy Adams, Viola Davis, and of course Meryl Streep and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in a true acting duel (all were nominated for Oscars).
