Why watch this film?

"Slalom" is the debut feature film from French director Charlène Favier and part of the official selection of Cannes 2020. It is a powerful and dark drama about the world of professional youth sports and the abusive relationships between coaches and athletes. The film paints a raw and disturbing portrait of this world, at times reminiscent of films like "Whiplash" or "Black Swan," but with an even harsher dynamic between the two parties, as it also deals with the issue of sexual harassment, unfortunately common in the field. A disturbing and worrying movie, with precise direction that hits its tones and nuances and exposes a severe and problematic reality, without sugarcoating and without fear of exposing its criticism.
