Why watch this film?
My End. Your Beginning. With touches of 'Butterfly Effect' and 'I Origins', the German drama 'My End. Your Beginning' is one of those films that like to play with the temporality of the story. After all, here we follow two narratives that seem disconnected at first. On the one hand, Nora (Saskia Rosendahl), a young woman who saw her boyfriend killed right in front of her during a robbery. On the other, Natan (Edin Hasanovic), a father who has to deal with his still small daughter going through a chemotherapy process. In these two stories, full of losses, pains and tragedies, director and screenwriter Mariko Minoguchi avoids the obvious melodrama that this narrative could create to embrace a production full of dramatic moments, always with coldness and emotions running between the lines. Although it slips with some obviousness, such as the joke of the names Nora and Aron, it manages to surprise with a sharp script that can please fans of slower, festival films, as well as those who like stories like 'Butterfly Effect'.
