The plot of 'The Perfect Mother-in-Law' has the essence of the genre in Brazil. Directed by Cris D'Amato, the filmmaker behind films such as 'It's a Fairy' and 'S.O.S. Women to Sea', the feature film tells the story of Neide (Cacau Protásio), owner of a beauty salon who wants her son Fábio Jr. (Luis Navarro) to get married. The suitor that appears on the horizon is the new beauty salon attendant, Ciléia (Polliana Aleixo). Together, they devise a way to bring the young woman into the life of the young man, who only thinks of staying locked in his room playing video games. That's when the plot takes shape and direction, with this story of love coming and going. With Protásio playing a character reminiscent of what was seen in 'Love Tying', in which the actress also plays a conflicted mother-in-law, the humor is familiar to Brazilians. 'The Perfect Mother-in-Law' does not intend to revolutionize the genre, nor to bring something really different. The feature film bets on the basics done correctly, without overdoing it, so that the audience can find an entertaining and harmless pastime.

After all, the parents have separated and now each one is in their own corner. Thus, the three children of the couple (Benite, Pedro Miranda and Lorena Queiroz) try to "save Christmas as a family". It's an unreal yet enjoyable journey to watch. It lacks a bit of the Brazilianness of 'Tudo Bem no Natal que Vem', for example. But director Cris D'Amato succeeds with a light, simple narrative that entertains anyone -- and with scenes worthy of note, such as an entire sequence filmed at the corner of Ladeira Porto Geral and Rua 25 de Março. It won't change your life, but it will certainly make it lighter.
Double Dad
Maisa Silva makes her feature film debut in partnership with Netflix Brazil. 'Pai em Dobro' is a portrait of a very common story in Brazilian society: paternal absence - which is shown in a less tense way in the production. The actress, who grew up in the eyes of the public, has become a great professional and this is evident - she stands out in the movie even alongside more experienced actors like Eduardo Moscovis and Laila Zaid. 'Pai em Dobro' has a screenplay by Thalita Rebouças, who had a large part of her books adapted to the cinema. This time, she created an original story for the screen and then wrote the novel, which was released in 2020.
Someone Borrowed
Netflix has been promoting Brazilian cinema for many years, focusing especially on romantic comedies, with this 'Noiva de Aluguel' as its most recent exponent. Here, humor is built from a tragic situation that exposes the character flaws of the central character before redeeming him. It's the classic learning story, here starring Caio Castro, Danielle Winits and directed by Cris D'Amato, who once again directs a Netflix original movie.
