Why watch this film?

In 'Undine', German director Christian Petzold ('Phoenix', 'Transit') builds a singular romance story, as unique as the rest of his own filmography. The director leads his narrative by blending formalist rigor with fantastic elements, being one of the most interesting creators of the present to compose this space of the fantastic intertwined with the urban and contemporary. The myth is carefully drawn as a subtext to the narrative, and little by little it invades and permeates the film, until it takes it over completely. The performance of the protagonists Franz Rogowski and Paula Beer, who had already worked together and with the director in the interesting film 'Transit', is sublime, and contains a chemistry that enchants and fills the eyes. The narrative composed in 'Undine' is very reminiscent, in its layers, of Latin American magical realism, and may be one of the films that can best approach the genre outside the continent. It is an immersive and captivating experience, sober and mature.
