Step Up
The 1980s were known for some of the most memorable dance movies in cinema history, such as 'Dirty Dancing' and 'Footloose' -- with a special mention to 'Grease' at the end of the 1970s. Then, the subgenre fell into disgrace and was only revisited in the second half of the 2000s with 'Step Up'. Here, Channing Tatum leads the story of a troubled boy who finds himself in dance. It's a banal, even too simplistic story, but it leaves anyone excited and wanting to take some steps around.
Hocus Pocus 2
We had to wait 29 years for the return of the Sanderson sisters - and it was worth it. 'Hocus Pocus 2' is a nostalgic journey through one of the greatest Halloween classics of the 1990s. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy are back in the skin of the most beloved Disney witches. The new story shows how they became sorceresses and features three incredible young actresses giving life to the newer version of the trio. Fast-forwarding to the present day we have Becca (Whitney Peak), Izzy (Belissa Escobedo) and Cassie (Lilia Buckingham) as the girls who face the Sandersons - because, just like in the original feature, after being burned at the stake in the 16th century, they are brought back by a teenager thanks to a spell they cast before dying. 'Hocus Pocus 2' rescues the same identity of the other movie, with the same tone of jokes, music and lightness of the plot. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy remain great and guarantee great laughs. In addition, the feature gives a humanized look to the witches, since now their mission is no longer to rejuvenate themselves by feeding on children. The message of the movie speaks of friendship, family, unity as a whole, and the power of women, with some feminist touches. This is a sequel that manages to be as good as the original version - and the best part is that it doesn't worry about going beyond that or becoming a big franchise like Disney loves to do, even though there is that space. Kidnapped
In Kidnapped (Rapito), Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio delves into one of the murkiest and most controversial episodes in the history of the Catholic Church, the "Mortara case". In 1851, when Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara becomes gravely ill, his Catholic nanny decides to baptize him in an emergency. However, papal law dictates that all Catholics must be raised as such, so the cardinal orders the boy to be taken and handed over to the church, against his parents' wishes, who decide to fight for him. The film recounts a controversial case that captured the attention of the rest of Europe and America, and skillfully portrays the clash of interests between the waning power of the church, Mortara's parents, and public opinion, with irreversible consequences for all involved.
Green Border
'Green Border' - In the treacherous and swampy forests that make up the so called “green border” between Belarus and Poland, refugees from the Middle East and Africa trying to reach the European Union are trapped in a geopolitical crisis cynically engineered by Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko. In an attempt to provoke Europe, refugees are lured to the border by propaganda promising easy passage to the EU. Pawns in this hidden war, the lives of Julia, a newly minted activist who has given up her comfortable life, Jan, a young border guard, and a Syrian family intertwine.
