This is an ensemble comedy (featuring names like Jane Fonda, Tina Fey, Corey Stoll, and Jason Bateman) about a estranged family that is forced to come together for their father's funeral and settle old grievances. In This Is Where I Leave You, Kathryn Hahn has a secondary but interesting role, as she plays a woman in an uncomfortable position within the family: her marriage to her current husband is in crisis due to their inability to conceive, while she is also the ex of her now-brother-in-law.
This small, underrated comedy by Tamara Jenkins is one of the best roles in Kathryn Hahn's career, alongside the also monumental Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers). Private Life follows a couple of artists trying to conceive amid the pressures of the biological clock, as they are both in their 40s. While considering the option of conceiving via a gestational surrogate, their niece comes to live with them. The film tackles the plot from a tragicomic angle, with a realism that almost feels documentary-like, supported by the performances of Hahn and Giamatti.
Once again as part of a great ensemble cast (with actors like Edward Norton, Daniel Craig, Leslie Odom Jr., and more), Kathryn Hahn stands out with a somewhat sober role among a wave of eccentric characters. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is another murder mystery from Rian Johnson, in which Hahn plays an influential governor whose interests come into play during the intrigue.
