Why watch the movie The United States vs. Billie Holiday?
"One of the strongest films of the 2021 awards season is 'The United States vs. Billie Holiday', largely due to its theme. The production shows the peak of jazz singer Billie Holiday's career, who became an icon for her talent and daring to sing about the lynchings that blacks suffered in the United States. Her famous song 'Strange Fruit' is practically a manifesto and, precisely because of this, Holiday became one of the targets of the FBI, which tried at all costs to silence her voice. In the movie, Andra Day, winner of the Golden Globe for the role, gives life to Holiday in a simply brilliant performance. The actress, who is also a singer, is a spectacle in itself, so much so that she was nominated for an Oscar."
