Al Pacino robs a bank to pay for a sex-change operation for his lover, Leon. Based on a true story. On one of the hottest days of August 1972, three amateur bank robbers plan to hold up a Brooklyn bank. A nice simple robbery: Walk in, take the money, and run. Unfortunately, the supposedly uncomplicated heist suddenly becomes a bizarre nightmare as everything that could go wrong does.
"With a brilliant performance by Al Pacino, 'Dog Day Afternoon' is remembered as an anti-system movie amid the American disillusionment with the Vietnam War. Above all, it deals with gender identity issues, so it can also be considered a classic queer film. The movie is inspired by the real-life story of John Wojtowicz, adapted from a famous LIFE magazine article, "The Boys in the Bank"."
