‘Wicker’ Review: Alexander Skarsgård Is Sturdy Husband Material in a Bawdy Adult Fable

Because they frequently use anthropomorphic animals or objects to teach a direct moral lesson, present-day fables often feel geared toward children. But Aesop, the best-known ancient practitioner of the fable, originally wrote his tales for adults to address more mature issues. Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson’s Wicker, which adapts Ursula Wills’s fable “The Wicker Husband,” is a thrilling rarity because it marries a disposition of childlike sincerity with a story whose themes are adult in more ways than one. The film’s primary narrative thrust follows the sensual struggles of Fisherwoman (Olivia Colman), a sweet-natured spinster in a provincial village where a person’s name and identity

Olivia Colman And Alexander Skarsgård Say ‘Wicker’ Is About Opening Yourself Up To Love

Alexander Skarsgård usually gravitates toward morally conflicted characters. In Wicker, he plays one with none of that. The Sundance hit from directors Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer stars Olivia Colman as a fisherwoman shunned by her village who has a husband made for her by the local basketmaker (Peter Dinklage). Skarsgård plays that wicker husband, whose openness upends her guarded life and the village around them. Colman and Skarsgård spoke exclusively with BLKCinema.com about the Fisherwoman learning to let love in and the challenge of playing a character with no ulterior motives. Olivia Colman on the Fisherwoman letting love in Colman said the Fisherwoman’s armor, and what it takes to drop it,

This new Wicker poster makes me want to see this weird fantasy film even more

As a girl who loves fantasy books and the occasional romance novel, I have completely fallen in love with one genre: romantasy. But honestly, it might be hard to cater to the crowd of girls who have high expectations of men who aren’t even… human males. However, it looks like the marketing team behind the new romance fantasy movie Wicker knows exactly what they’re doing. The new film, releasing in theaters on Oct. 23, 2026, stars Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård, and it's already spreading on social media. The team just released a new poster for the film — and it is entirely inspired by the modern-day romantasy novel, which is
