Taika Waititi’s Delusional ‘Klara and the Sun’ Instagram Post Exemplifies the Dangers of a Growing Divide Between Critics and Artists in the Digital Age

I’ve seen enough: Taika Waititi is no longer riffing on a level that is frickin’ sublime. A quick update for those of you who don’t get your news from DiscussingFilm and/or obsessively listen to “Who? Weekly” in order to keep tabs on Rita Ora: On Saturday afternoon, writer-director Taika Waititi opened Instagram and posted — to his grid! — a less than equanimous reaction to the reviews of his new motion picture “Klara and the Sun,” which was in the process of making less money per screen during its second weekend than the average movie theater employee. It wasn’t the most embarrassing self-own of the pre-midterms weekend, but I’d argue that Waititi’s faux pas has more to say about how the reality distortion field of today’s media landscape has made it all too easy for highly visible people to misperceive the world around them in a crisis.

Heat 2 | Michael Mann shoots himself in leg as film hits pre-production

A bizarre accident sees Michael Mann rushed to hospital, just a month or two before Heat 2 finally starts filming. A bizarre story just as the long-gestating Heat 2 ramps up for production: it’s writer and director, Michael Mann, appears to have shot himself in the leg. For the avoidance of doubt, this was a deliberate act. Rather, Mann was at a gun range over the weekend, when a holstered firearm accidentally discharged. This left him rushed to ambulance, with a gunshot wound to the leg. The 83-year old is set to start shooting Heat 2 in January, with the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Stephen Graham and Christian Bale
