Why watch this film?
World War II still yields many films, even 75 years later. 'Der Hauptmann' presents a different story about this period by following a German soldier fighting for survival. He finds a Nazi captain's uniform and assumes the position of superior as soon as he is in possession of the garments. It is very interesting to analyze how he grows from the moment he decides to embody this character. Another differential of 'Der Hauptmann' is that most of the movies about World War II do not show the perspective of the Nazis. Director and screenwriter Robert Schwentke, known in the United States for directing 'Red: Retired and Dangerous' and 'R.I.P.D: Agents of the Beyond', brings a simple and natural story, without pointing out who the enemy is or portraying the Germans as the villains - because we know that not everyone who fought in the war supported the Nazi regime.

Insurgent
After a relatively mediocre success with 'Divergent', the saga returned to the big screen one year later with 'Insurgent'. Out goes Neil Burger ('The Illusionist') from the direction and in comes Robert Schwentke ('The Captain', 'RED'), who makes the whole production a bit more pasteurized and with generic tones. However, despite a slight drop in quality compared to the first feature film, we find a production that still manages to bring interesting youth themes in a dystopian environment, with good performances by Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet and Ansel Elgort. It's not great, but it's a way to pass the time.
Allegiant
Finally, after mediocre results with 'The Divergent Series: Insurgent', the dystopian young adult franchise about Tris (Shailene Woodley) went back to the "all or nothing". Lionsgate, the studio responsible for the adaptation of Veronica Roth's books, kept apathetic Robert Schwentke ('RED') in the direction, but left a more impressive cast - in addition to Kate Winslet, heavyweights such as Octavia Spencer and Jeff Daniels also joined the franchise. But even that was not enough to save 'The Divergent Series: Allegiant' from being shelved after a cold reception from critics and audiences, resulting in a box office much lower than expected. The lack of interest of the actors in continuing the production was also a point for Lionsgate to give up the project, which never had its conclusion adapted to the movies - it is worth remembering that 'Allegiant' is the last book of the saga, but the studio opted to divide the story into two parts. There is a bittersweet feeling here. After all, as bad as it is a bad movie, worse still is not seeing Tris's story concluded in the movies, the way it deserved. It's a shame, because it had potential.
Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins
"Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins" is the third and newest action movie of the famous G.I. Joe franchise, which has already featured stars like The Rock and Bruce Willis in its previous films. This follows the journey of a lone warrior trained by a Japanese clan known as the Arashikage. But when secrets from his past are revealed, his loyalty to the clan is tested. Eventually, he embarks on a journey that transforms him into the hero Snake Eyes. For the usual fans of the franchise, the new one does not fail to deliver the expected. Even though it does not have the stars that have been in other films, it still adds well-constructed action scenes and an experienced director behind the cameras (who has already directed other action films such as 'Red', 'R.I.P.D.' and two films of the 'Divergent' franchise). For action lovers and fans of the franchise, you will be at home!

Underdog
In its effort to raise awareness about the precarious social reality of certain sectors of the population, Mexican cinema tends to fall into miserabilism (or so-called "poverty porn"), whether in documentaries or fiction. The quest of Mexican cinema for new creative and narrative horizons is ongoing, and in the case of Underdog (Correr para vivir), director and co-writer Gerardo Dorantes opts for what, in its conventions, is an action and crime thriller extrapolated to the context of the Rarámuri (or Tarahumara) indigenous people of northern Mexico, famous for their running tradition (and their extraordinary talent for it). The plot follows two brothers: Omero (Vladimir Rivera), who dreams of being a runner; and Capó (Manuel Cruz Vivas), who is more talented but also troubled. Both are dragged into a life of service to the drug trade when Capó, in an attempt to provide for his pregnant girlfriend, fails in a cocaine delivery. To be honest, it's a good attempt to steer Mexican cinema towards other directions that are not the typical exploitation of social dramas or anthropological documentaries. However, the film ends up falling into the same vices, representing Rarámuri culture from a superficial and idealized exoticism, creating entertainment from a real social context with little sensitivity.
Downtown Owl
'Downtown Owl' - Searching for a break from her cosmopolitan life in Milwaukee, Julia Rabia (Lily Rabe), arrives in the closeknit Reagan-era town of Owl, North Dakota for a one-semester high school teaching job. But when the small town turns out to be a wonderland of second-string poets, smoldering Marlboro Men, and a social hierarchy that echoes high school, Julia doesn't know if she's come to town to get away from home or to find it. Ed Harris, Vanessa Hudgens, Henry Golding, and Finn Wittrock also star in this Great Plains dark dramedy directed by Lily Rabe and Hamish Linklater. Based on the novel by Chuck Klosterman.
