Why watch this film?
Right off the bat, I want to make it clear: 'Music to Die of Love' is a cliché movie. One of those romances you know how it starts, how it goes and how it ends. You've seen these characters dozens of times on other screens, you know this kind of story inside out. But it's like that: in the end, this movie by Rafael Gomes couldn't make more sense. Even if it appeals too much to ready-made and effective phrases, 'Music to Die of Love' talks about teenage romances and passions. Or, at least, what we imagine to be teenage romances and passions. With a striking soundtrack that manages to convey the necessary feelings to accompany the plot, it's hard for the viewer not to get excited when following the loves and heartbreaks of the trio of protagonists, always in some kind of relationship. A lot of things here don't make sense, others irritate. But that's okay. It's a love story, as we've seen around. Sometimes, that's the best company.

Plot summary
In present-day São Paulo, a trio of young hearts are about to break. Ricardo has both a steady boyfriend and a wandering eye for a new coworker. Isabella is taking a break from both her boyfriend and best friend Ricardo. And hopeless romantic Felipe has suddenly found himself caught between the two of them. These three have big dreams, yearning passion, and opinionated acquaintances, but they’re all unprepared for what’s to come from Cupid’s arrows.

Rafael Gomes is a director and screenwriter who knows how to tell stories about the end of loves like few others. After talking about it in '45 Days Without You' and 'Music to Die of Love', he intensifies his world view on love in 'My Love Album'. Here, the filmmaker expands his discourse even further by talking not only about the romantic relationship between people, but also about family love, between father and son. To do this, he tells the story of Julio (Gabriel Leone), a young man whose heart has just been broken and who, at the same time, discovers that his father is a decades-old (or would it be popular?) Brega singer who died recently. From then on, Gomes mixes beautiful original music in a round movie about affective responsibility, whether in the love relationship or in the relationship between parents, mothers and children. With young adult novels – and their respective film adaptations – like The Fault In Our Stars, John Green has been the undisputed master of moving teenagers and adults since the 2000s... and beyond. Turtles All The Way Down is the adaptation of his latest fiction novel, directed by Hannah Marks (Mark, Mary & Some Other People). The story follows Aza (Isabela Merced, Madame Web), who, in addition to dealing with typical high school teenager issues, must cope with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), which becomes debilitating when her thoughts fixate on the bacteria present everywhere in the world... and on herself. It’s a typical Green story: expect some melodramatic romance and tragedy, but grounded and never condescending. Marks’ direction is solid and Merced is phenomenal in the role.

Which Brings me to You is a romance of winding paths. In the plot, two romantics (Lucy Hale and Nat Wolff), both weary of life and impossible loves, meet at a wedding and nearly embark on overwhelming passion — with all the mistakes that could entail. It's then that they agree to exchange honest confessions about their past, seeking a fresh chance at love. A solid modern romance that convinces with its dilemmas.
