Why watch this film?

Directed by Spanish filmmaker Icíar Bollaín ("Take My Eyes"), with a script awarded at the San Sebastian Film Festival 2018, and nominated for five Goya Awards in 2019; "Al ritmo del corazón" (better known as "Yuli") is a biographical drama about the legendary Cuban dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta, his difficult childhood in Havana, and his ambivalent relationship with dance at the beginning of his career (in this sense, it's the antithesis of "Billy Elliot"). It's a well-achieved story of inspiration and determination, visually beautiful, and with a surprising emotional generosity from Acosta, who appears in the film, wrote the autobiography on which the movie is based, and even served as executive producer.
