Why watch this film?
There is no doubt that S. Craig Zahler is one of the brightest filmmakers of contemporary cinema, with pearls that take the viewer out of their comfort zone - 'Bone Tomahawk' and 'Brawl in Cell Block 99' are exceptional executions. Now, in his third film as director, Zahler surprises and shocks again with 'Dragged Across Concrete' (the excellent original title of the movie). Here we follow a pair of policemen (Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn, both exceptional) who are removed from their jobs and eventually find work only in the underworld of crime. It is a strong and provocative film that constantly brings up precarious questions. After all, Zahler is the filmmaker of the dirty, the strange, the "underground". Here, certainly, he would not do differently. However, the warning stands: it is not a movie that gives space to problematize or find moral dilemmas. It is to embark on the actions of the characters and understand, in some way, their attitudes.
