Why watch this film?

Despite being active since the 1990s, actor David Oyelowo gained projection in cinemas mainly after his performance in 'Selma', a feature film in which he plays Martin Luther King Jr. After that, the actor managed to get increasingly prominent characters in films like 'Chaos World' and 'Alice and Peter'. Thus, in 'The Water Man', Oyelowo also takes control of the narrative behind the cameras. A kind of family fable, a well-dosed mixture of 'Bridge to Terabithia' with 'Seven Minutes After Midnight', the feature tells the story of Gunner (Lonnie Chavis), a creative, artistic and intelligent boy who has to deal with his mother's imminent death. Thus, as a refuge, he ends up seeking solace in his own world of fantasies. With the help of a mysterious girl from the region (Amiah Miller), he enters the dangerous forest that surrounds the city in search of the Water Man. The Water Man. A being who survived an accident and, according to the legend spread by a resident (Alfred Molina), can cure all diseases. With this premise, the film develops in a simple way, sometimes even simplistic. However, as a kind of Afternoon Session, it manages to move through the fantasy journey of this little boy and showing that Oyelowo, playing the boy's father, achieves good results in front and also behind the cameras.
