Why watch this film?

"Better Nate Than Ever" follows in the footsteps of these first original films created directly for Disney+: it brings a family-friendly storyline, to spend time with a story that entertains and uplifts the spirit. Nate Foster (Rueby Wood), the titular character, is a 13-year-old boy from Pittsburgh who dreams of becoming a great musical theater star. After a failed audition at school, he sneaks off to New York with his best friend, Libby (Aria Brooks), to audition for the Broadway version of ‘Lilo & Stitch’. From there, the movie builds a sweet trajectory, which at times even reminds us of ‘No Ritmo do Coração’, the big Oscar winner of 2022. More than that: it speaks in a fun way about dreams, family relationships, and perseverance, in true Disney style. Finally, the film introduces in a light and touching way Nate's homosexuality, raising the debate on a subject that, as much as part of society prefers to ignore, exists and should motivate conversations about inclusion and respect among children (and adults). For fans of ‘Friends’, Lisa Kudrow stands out as the aunt anyone would love to have.
