Why watch this film?

Every coming-of-age movie is about young people who must reach adulthood, face the adult world, and find their place in it. 'A Chiara' by Jonas Carpignano adds a crucial element to this formula: how does a 16-year-old girl accept discovering that her father is connected to the mafia world and what will she decide to do for herself? With a work reminiscent of old neorealist films (but never sloppy), the film addresses the real consequences of the characters' decisions without falling into melodrama. The film also has connections to its predecessors in Carpignano's 'Calabria Trilogy', which further increases the impact of the events.
