Why watch this film?
Starring the always great Vicky Krieps (Embrace Me Tightly), Corsage: The Rebel Empress is inspired by the true story of Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria, who was known, among other things, for her obsession with maintaining a youthful and slim appearance, to the point of wearing excessively tight corsets and developing a very restrictive diet. The film takes an irreverent turn to what is expected of period biographical dramas in its approach to issues such as gender conformity, although it also maintains melancholic elements in its meditation on loneliness.

The Ground Beneath My Feet
Lola Wegenstein (Valerie Pachner) is a successful executive at a consultancy, but she is crumbling inside. Her sister Conny (Pia Hierzegger) has serious psychological problems and is therefore hospitalized in a special hospital. Meanwhile, behind the scenes of her work, she maintains a hidden relationship with her boss (Mavie Hörbiger) while aspiring to new leaps. This is the central plot of 'Der Boden unter den Füßen', a feature film by director Marie Kreutzer (Die Vaterlosen) which focuses on a woman suffering from burnout and severe emotional exhaustion. After all, everything is crumbling, everything is in pieces. What looks good at one moment is bad at another. It's a complicated life, full of challenging highs and lows. From this, the filmmaker treats this story, so powerful and with emotional undertones, in the coldest and most distant way possible, bringing a provocative look at the work and people dilemmas of the modern world. After all, in 'Der Boden unter den Füßen', there is no escape. Just an apathetic world waiting for us.

The Peasants
The Peasants is an animated film by the same directors of Loving Vincent, using the same innovative technique, which could be described as "oil-painted rotoscopy". Based on the Nobel Prize-winning novel The Peasants (1904) by Władysław Reymont, it's a tale of desire and revenge told in four episodes, one for each season of the year. The story, set in Poland at the turn of the 20th century, follows a young peasant woman who wreaks havoc by marrying an older, wealthy man, whose son also desires her, despite being married. It is a powerful and bleak, although conventional tale about violence and misogyny, somewhat overshadowed by its beautiful and prodigious visual execution.
