Why watch this film?
The UFO phenomenon, and the possibility of extraterrestrial life in general, is one of the topics that has fascinated humanity in recent times, causing a stir with any hint or story related to the subject. At least that was the case in Chile during the 80s (still during Pinochet's military dictatorship), when a group of radio enthusiasts made contact with beings who supposedly claimed to live on "Isla Friendship" and have contact with an alien race. Told in an audiovisual style reminiscent of old mid-20th-century science fiction films, 'Alien Island' is a Chilean documentary in which the lines between documentary and fiction blur in the style of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." The film not only recounts the fascinating case but also questions the social and historical contexts in which supposed UFO contacts and sightings often arise, intentionally or not, generating collective hysteria.
