Why watch this film?

Madame Web is the ideal movie for those who love Morbius and the two Venom movies. Didn't find them funny or thought the movies were forced? Then pay attention, as Madame Web worsens several aspects of those other productions, leaning towards campiness but never fully embracing the comedic ridiculousness. The story, just like in the comics, revolves around a woman with the power to see the future. Her fate changes when she helps three teenagers (portrayed by adult actresses Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O'Connor) escape from a villain dressed as Spider-Man, long before Spider-Man even exists in that universe. There's good chemistry among the cast, despite some awkwardness from Dakota Johnson and Sweeney, and the movie can even be seen and understood as a lighthearted and fun hero adventure. But don't try to look beyond page two, as there's a lack of purpose and coherence in the story.

Plot summary

"Meanwhile, in another universe…” In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing's most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures...if they can all survive a deadly present.
