This Is Where I Leave You
Based on Jonathan Tropper's book 'This Is Where I Leave You' and directed by Shawn Levy (‘Gigantes de acero’), ‘Hasta que la muerte nos juntó’ is a bittersweet comedic drama that takes a more serious tone than some of Levy's other credits (like the 'Night at the Museum' movies or the Steve Martin remake of 'Cheaper by the Dozen'). It features an all-star cast of Jason Bateman (‘Quiero matar a mi jefe’), Tina Fey (‘Chicas pesadas’), Corey Stoll (‘House of Cards’), Adam Driver (‘Girls’) and the iconic Jane Fonda (‘Barbarella’), all of whom are capable of forming complex, funny characters one moment and utterly hateable ones the next. It's far from the best of its kind, but it succeeds in being emotionally resonant in its exploration of shattered illusions and reconciliation in adulthood.

Free Guy
'Free Guy' is undoubtedly a pleasant surprise. A mix of 'Pixels' with 'The Truman Show' and 'Player One', the feature film tells the story of a video game character who gains consciousness - and embarks on a great virtual adventure with a programmer. This story is built from the charisma of Ryan Reynolds ('Deadpool'), which has clear inspiration in Jim Carrey, but adding the energy of the action films in which he is also the protagonist. All this loaded with many references (including cinematic, it is impossible not to notice!) And an interesting subtext about acceptance, love and, mainly, a criticism of the corporate rat race. In the director's chair, Shawn Levy ('Giants of Steel' and producer of 'Stranger Things') proves once again that it is perfect to bring together ideas and concepts from different places in a single pot that, yes, yields a good broth - even if it is not innovative. In addition to Reynolds, the good cast brings Joe Keery (also from 'Stranger Things'), Jodie Comer ('Killing Eve') and Taika Waititi ('What We Do in the Shadows') - the latter priceless, stealing the scene.

The Adam Project
Directed by Shawn Levy (of 'Free Guy' and producer of 'Stranger Things'), 'The Adam Project' is a Netflix exclusive movie that brings together an all-star cast - featuring Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana and Jennifer Garner - to tell a story that mixes science fiction, action and lots of heart. In the feature, Reynolds plays a pilot who returns from the future to the year 2022 to try to find his beloved, Saldana, who disappeared in the past - and, in the process, comes face to face with his young self, only 12 years old. From there, sci-fi becomes the backdrop for a story about family, love and the relationship between parents and children. At this point, in a characteristic of Levy's work, there are some truly touching scenes - making us reflect on our paternal and maternal relationships, life choices and teenage outbursts. Noteworthy, moreover, is Walker Scobell, who balances all of Reynolds' (already known) acting limits by practically embodying the actor in his younger version, delivering the best performance of the entire feature. However, 'The Adam Project' falls short in its main objective: delivering a good action and adventure story. Unfortunately, we have a simplistic script in this regard, which fails to develop a minimally exciting story, with predictable twists, weak clashes and poorly developed motivations. Now, if you don't mind that, you'll find a good family entertainment, which will certainly be able to lead to a deep conversation between parents and children.
