Pixote
A hard, visceral movie about the reality of poor youth in Brazil at the turn of the 1970s to 1980s. The feature film mixes documentary elements in a very rich cinematic work, but a very sad story - especially when we remember the fate of Fernando Ramos da Silva, the actor of Pixote. More than anything, this is a landmark of national cinema that should be watched by those who want to understand more about Brazilian seventh art.
My Hindu Friend
This is the latest film from Brazilian filmmaker Héctor Babenco (director of "The Kiss of the Spider Woman"), one of the most famous in his country internationally between the seventies and eighties, who died of cancer in 2016. “My Last Friend”, then, is semi-autobiographical and metafictional, in a line similar to the famous "8 ½" by Federico Fellini, since we have a filmmaker making a film about a filmmaker asking Death for more time (watch out for the reference to "The Seventh Seal" by Ingmar Bergman) to make his last movie. It is a tribute to life and an emotionally heartfelt goodbye letter, perhaps a bit sentimental, which the always great Willem Dafoe ("The Lighthouse") manages to inject with as much emotion as credibility.

Kidnapped
In Kidnapped (Rapito), Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio delves into one of the murkiest and most controversial episodes in the history of the Catholic Church, the "Mortara case". In 1851, when Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara becomes gravely ill, his Catholic nanny decides to baptize him in an emergency. However, papal law dictates that all Catholics must be raised as such, so the cardinal orders the boy to be taken and handed over to the church, against his parents' wishes, who decide to fight for him. The film recounts a controversial case that captured the attention of the rest of Europe and America, and skillfully portrays the clash of interests between the waning power of the church, Mortara's parents, and public opinion, with irreversible consequences for all involved.
Green Border
'Green Border' - In the treacherous and swampy forests that make up the so called “green border” between Belarus and Poland, refugees from the Middle East and Africa trying to reach the European Union are trapped in a geopolitical crisis cynically engineered by Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko. In an attempt to provoke Europe, refugees are lured to the border by propaganda promising easy passage to the EU. Pawns in this hidden war, the lives of Julia, a newly minted activist who has given up her comfortable life, Jan, a young border guard, and a Syrian family intertwine.
